The Surprising Soap Moment
Like most folks who are making the transition from one bar of soap to another, I squish the slippery, wet sliver of the old bar to the new one. Last week, with eyes half open, I climbed into the shower and found an exciting message waiting- embedded into my soap.
This year has been a roller coaster of highs and lows. My soap moment was a great reminder that everything in the universe happens in the perfect time, space sequence. Even in these uncertain times, we can look to the future with excitement and anticipation.
Happy New Year!
5 Steps for Creating a Mindful Holiday Season
To nourish your spirit during the holiday season, focus on supporting others less fortunate than yourselves. Now is the perfect time to practice selfless service and giving. Even when we feel as if we are staring down a list of financial hardships, there are always those less fortunate. As the economy tumbles up and then down, we can find peace and support by helping each other.
- Honor yourself, your neighbors and planet Earth by choosing nonviolence toward yourself and everyone around you.
- Follow your heart. Learn to listen to yourself through meditation.
- Contemplate how much you already have and what you really need. Are there things you think you need in your life to make you happy, or do you already have plenty? Cultivate gratitude for all that you have.
- Before you indulge, whether it’s at home alone- or a room full of people, keep your thoughts in the present moment. Take time to consciously think about your motivation to spend or eat too much during the holidays.
- Be flexible in mind, body and spirit. Try not to be constrained by rigid schedules, and to go with the flow of life. Be open to all the possibilities during this season of celebration.
Giving can be more rewarding than receiving- open yourself to the possibilities!
Is Your Holiday Glow Contentment or Overload?
During the holidays, it’s easy to feel overloaded and miss out on the reason for the season- connecting with others. Our struggling economy, endless encouragement to take advantage of great shopping deals, and family pressures can lead to a holiday season that is the least peaceful time of year. Managing the holiday season is a real test of what we have learned through our yoga practice. Read more
Thinking About the Past Year
Just thinking about the past year can leave me a bit drained. Although there are many exhilarating moments nurturing a new business from conception to it’s first anniversary, the price includes losing all semblance of personal balance. It’s difficult to not feel a swell of guilt when I hear my voice reminding all of you how important it is to take time for yourselves and to live fully in the present; knowing that I couldn’t keep the lounge alive if I took my own advice.
As we charge full speed into our second year, I assure you the experience has been priceless. Every new student that joins us to learn and practice yoga has something unique to offer our community. Each of the smiling faces that arrive to class know that with mat in place; peace and tranquility are only one breath away. We currently have four dedicated yogis who are spending their free time learning more about yoga and taking careful steps down the path to becoming yoga students AND teachers.
In 2009 we hope to offer additional class times and workshops, making it even easier for you to keep a consistent practice within your busy schedule and for me to transition from literally “living and breathing” yoga to living in balance through yoga!
Thank you to all who have contributed in any way to the creation and continued success of balance yoga lounge.

Welcome to Our Blog!
Welcome to our blog! Here we will discuss everything yoga and we welcome your input.
We’ll be covering all sorts of topics on the blog, including answering the following types of questions:
- How does your practice inside the lounge affect your life outside the lounge?
- How many times each week should you attend class to see benefits from your yoga practice?
- What exactly is meditation, and how do you get your mind to stay empty long enough to experience it?
Follow our journey of living and learning yoga. Whatever you do, yoga can help you do it better.
