The benefits of Mindfulness…a special report from the Mayo Clinic


there is less and less time for yin (cooling) relaxation. Even sleep is traded for additional time for “doing.” In a special report found in the Mayo Clinic Health Letter, the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research shares a well written commentary on the benefits of mindfulness and meditation in relationships and daily living, how the chemistry of the brain is affected by living in the moment, and tips on how to begin practicing mindfulness. Amit Sood, M.D. (chair of the Mayo Mind Body Initiative) recommends this weekly planner to get started:


Monday- start your day finding five things to be grateful for

Tuesday- set the intention to decrease pain and suffering throughout the day

Wednesday- live your day by accepting yourself and others as they are

Thursday- focus on the ultimate meaning and purpose of your life

Friday- Forgive yourself for past mistakes and move on

Saturday- celebrate your life and the lives of those around you

Sunday- reflect on the week, through meditation or simply being in the moment
