Sprouted Grains…exactly what are they?


While in the Caribbean last year, we took a day trip to Anguilla and wandered up the beach to the Cusinart Spa and Resort. I had always been curious about the hydroponic greenhouse located on the resort grounds, and we were lucky enough to drop in and enjoy a tour led by Dr. Howard Resh, PhD (Canadian pioneer in the development of modern day hydroponic gardens). For those of you who have never come across this concept, plants grown hydroponically are grown in liquid- rather than soil.

Near the back of the greenhouse we encountered trays full of sprouted grain. I thought you might enjoy a little primer on what they are, how they can be used and especially…how to make sure they are free of contamination.
