I work in a local retail pharmacy a few days each week, and sometimes even I am surprised by the sheer number of prescriptions we fill for conditions related to stress. Ten years ago, the majority of those using prescription medication to control the symptoms of anxiety and depression were a bit older- had been subjected to daily stress for decades and just simply needed support. Today, we dispense monthly prescriptions for ALL ages from children to teens to young adults…and all the way to residents of skilled nursing facilities in their 80′s and 90′s. Stress has become a way of living for Americans, but are medications the only answer? NO!

While magnesium supplementation is a great way to manage stress, don’t forget that it contributes to loose stools in many patients- so forget the typical “more is better” theory and dose conservatively. Or better yet, get creative in the kitchen and try your hand at making your own magnesium body butter (treat dry skin AND anxiety with one simple application after your shower
Magnesium Body Butter (from Wellness Mama)

flakes + 3T boiling water (I ordered mine from Amazon)
¼ cup unrefined
3T shea butter
1. Pour 3T boiling water in to the magnesium flakes and stir until flakes dissolve. Set aside to cool.
2. using doubleboiler or very gentle heat, combine coconut oil, beeswax and shea butter. When melted let mixture cool until slightly opaque. Scrape into a medium sized bowl
and using immersion blender (stick blender) blend at medium speed while slowly
adding magnesium until well mixed.
3. Place in refrigerator for 15min and then re-blend to achieve body butter consistency. Store at room temp or refrigerated for up to two months.
