Brene Brown has spent over ten years studying emotions and behavior…shame, guilt, compassion, perfectionism and vulnerability. I highly recommend her book, The Gifts of Imperfection. If you’ve ever suspected that you have tendencies toward expectations of perfection; this book will strike a nerve, and perhaps gives you a clearer look at the reflection in the mirror.
Brene also gives a really good TED talk… You cannot just selectively numb the dark emotions; when we shut down the hurt and pain- emotions at the opposite end of the spectrum are also dimmed. The Price of Invulnurability.
