yoga therapy…yoga IS medicine

Yoga therapy is not the same as taking a yoga class. Group yoga instruction serves to maintain good health. Yoga therapy is a healing art used in managing the symptoms of disease.
Stress is a contributing component of chronic disease and our body’s response to stress compounds the symptoms of disease. Asana (physical yoga poses) and Pranayama (breath practice) work synergistically to modify the mind and body response to daily stress - thus altering the course of disease. Yoga therapy encourages one to look inward rather than outward toward healing.
Sandy is uniquely qualified to work privately with you to address specific health challenges by adapting traditional yoga poses to create a program of physical movement and breath that responds to your needs. Each session follows your pace and direction.
Simple poses, breath practice, relaxation techniques, guided imagery and meditation are the primary components of yoga therapy. Props (blankets, bolsters, chairs, etc) may be used to modify poses for safety and comfort. There is a growing body of evidence that suggests yoga can be a useful adjunctive treatment for a wide variety of medical conditions. Modern science and the ancient practice of yoga work synergistically to provide more options to people in need of comfort.
Yoga can be beneficial in the treatment of: addiction, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, low back pain, cancer, carpal tunnel, chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia, chronic sinusitis, depression, diabetes, headaches, heart disease, high blood pressure, infertility, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, menopause, mild Parkinsons, Multiple Sclerosis, stress and weight issues.
Yoga therapy is available by appointment ($70 per 60 minute session).
Yoga therapy is not a substitute for a medical treatment, nor does it replace the need for medical professionals. Yoga therapy is designed to complement treatment prescribed by your doctor. Always consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment of any medical condition.
